Locusts are similar to Grasshopper species and often seen in gardens and farming areas,they are not dangerous until they are seen in groups. They can live in extremely hot climatic conditions and raise their fertility after the Rainy season.

Life span of LOCUSTS:

• Life span is 90 days
• They lay 2 eggs
• They grow as fast as 6 weeks and start laying eggs in a month

Where do they Live:

• They are most likely to live in Hot /Dry Climates
• Their fertility is multiplied in huge numbers after rainy season. 

Production rate of LOCUSTS - HOW THEY MULTIPLY...

• 20 times in 3 months  
• 600 times in 6 months
• 800 times in 9 months 

How do they communicate with each other:

• They have unique way of communicating with each other 
• They start with small Group of 3 and can expand in lakhs and crores
• They can call Locusts from other groups and places as well..

How LOCUSTS are dangerous to HUMANS:

1. Locusts are not confined to any particular Crop.
2. Locusts can eat any crop
3. The only criteria is GREENERY i.e they eat plants not the crops.
4. They can swallow the crops within hours in large quantities 
5. They can travel 150 km in a day.
6. They can be in air for longer periods.
7. Locusts eat food which is equal or more than their body weights
8. 80 million Locusts can attack 1 km crop
9. They can eat food equivalent to intake of 35000 humans in a day
10. They can eat 8000 crores worth crop within a short period.
11. FOOD & AGRICULTURAL organization from UNITED NATIONS declared Locusts are the most dangerous when compared to other insects. 
12. Humans will have to suffer  infestation and hunger with their attack.
13. Locusts are filled with cannibal characteristics i.e. they suffer human lives by destroying human food.

How did they enter INDIA:
In the last few days we are hearing that they are attacking western INDIA that are in lakhs and crores.
They traveled from east Africa as they possess hot climatic conditions entered INDIA through  Rajasthan. Around 15+ districts are highly influenced with locusts attack.

• Burn tyres as the smell and smoke will make deviate them and can kill them - Causes Pollution
• Few scientist say to break them we have to give food resources as alternate to avid attack on crops - Not true, feeding them can make them more stronger & increase their numbers
